Is DoorDash busy on Martin Luther King Day? The short answer is that while it can be slightly busier than normal since some people may be home from work, for the most part, Martin Luther King Day isn’t much different from any other weekday. Indeed, most private employers don’t have the day off – it’s primarily government employees and banks that get the day off for Martin Luther King Day.
Since Martin Luther King Day is, for the most part, a regular day, you’ll want to be strategic about how you do your DoorDash deliveries on this day.

While MLK Day is a federal holiday, it’s not often officially observed as a holiday for many private businesses. For the most part, only government employees and financial employees (like bankers) get the day off. For most other workers, it’s going to be business as usual. I know back when I was working in corporate America, I often didn’t even realize it was Martin Luther King Day since it was treated as a regular day by my employer.
Since Martin Luther King Day isn’t typically treated as a holiday by many employers, business for DoorDash and for restaurants is essentially the same as any other non-holiday weekday. Ordering patterns also shouldn’t change too much. As a result, on MLK Day, DoorDash shouldn’t be any busier than on a regular day.
Indeed, in my experience, Monday is often one of the slowest days of the week for DoorDash, so it’s actually possible that DoorDash may be slower compared to later in the week when things typically get busier.
Best Times To DoorDash On Martin Luther King Day
The best times to DoorDash on Martin Luther King Day will be the same as a normal weekday. You’ll want to aim to work during the prime food ordering hours – specifically during lunch and dinner.
During the lunch rush, aim to work between 11 am and 1 pm, when the most people are usually ordering DoorDash. Where you work matters too. Since most private employers don’t treat Martin Luther King Day as a holiday, downtown areas with a lot of offices can make sense.
During the dinner rush, aim to work between 5 pm and 8 pm. You’ll want to stick to busy urban areas with a lot of density and young people. These are the people most likely to order DoorDash. It helps that these areas also usually have the most restaurants.
Final Thoughts
Martin Luther King Day is, for the most part, a regular day on DoorDash. Many employers do not treat it as a holiday, so most people are still working normally like any other day. The exception is government workers and financial workers, who typically get the day off.
Work during prime hours and in busy locations with a lot of customers and you should be able to stay busy. However, since Martin Luther King Day is on Monday, there can often be a dip in demand since Monday tends to have lower demand than other days (especially compared to weekend days).
