As much as workers look forward to retirement, it brings about a mix of emotions when the time to leave the workforce actually comes. On one hand, you’re excited about having more free time for yourself. On the other, there can be a sense of uncertainty about your financial future and losing that same sense of fulfillment you had while working.

Some people deal with their fear and hesitation about retirement by working one more year to save up and create a large financial cushion. Sometimes that mentality can lead to more years of putting retirement off. An alternative option may be to collect your Social Security payments, budget your retirement funds, and start up a side hustle. To help with that, check out these retirement tips and side hustle examples that can pad your income and keep you busy doing things you enjoy in your free time.

Consultant or Coach

During your working years, you’ve surely gained a ton of knowledge and expertise in your field. By reinventing yourself as a consultant or coach, you have a chance to mentor a younger working person on how to get into your field and how to succeed in it.

For example, a small business owner might offer consulting services to entrepreneurs on how to get their businesses up and running quickly and avoid potential pitfalls. There are many different markets where consultants are needed, such as accounting, marketing, finance, legal, social media, and public relations.

A major benefit of consulting is that you choose your own fees and hours and accept the clients you want.

Virtual Assistant

Businesspeople commonly struggle with having too few hours in the day to accomplish what they need to. Hiring a virtual assistant is one of their solutions.

Food delivery works much the same as ridesharing. You receive an order through an app, pick up food, and deliver it to the customer. The app deposits your pay into your account, and you can transfer it to your bank account.

Other possible driving hustles are bus driving, shuttle driving, grocery store delivery, or Amazon deliveries.
