Fairwinds Credit Union Referral Bonus (Step By Step Guide)

Fairwinds Credit Union is a Florida-based credit union that is currently offering new customers a $175 signup bonus after opening an account and completing a direct deposit of $1,000 or more. It’s unclear how long this offer will last, but if you’re reading this and it’s still available, I highly recommend taking advantage of this offer given how easy the terms are to meet. This post will walk you through the steps you need to follow to earn your Fairwinds Credit Union referral bonus.

If you’re looking for a brief rundown, here’s what you need to do to earn the bonus:

  1. Open a Fairwinds Credit Union checking account using a referral link (here’s my referral link).
  2. Do a direct deposit of $1,000 or more within 60 days of account opening.
  3. Your bonus will post on the 15th day of the month following the month you complete the direct deposit.

Fairwinds Credit Union is based in Florida, but membership is available nationwide. All you need to do is contribute a $5 membership share, which then allows you to become a member of the credit union. This is standard with any credit union (and I believe you get your $5 back if you ever close your account).

With all that said, let’s take a deeper dive into how this bonus works and what you need to do to earn it.

How To Earn Your Fairwinds Credit Union Referral Bonus

Fairwinds Credit Union is a good bank because it has no fees or minimum balance requirements. This means it’s an easy account to open and earn the bonus. Since there are no fees, you won’t have to spend time managing your Fairwinds Credit Union account.

There are three steps for you to follow to earn your Fairwinds Credit Union referral bonus. Here are the three steps in detail:

1. Open A Fairwinds Credit Union checking account with a referral link. First, you’ll need to open a Fairwinds Credit Union checking account using a referral link. Here’s my referral link if you feel like supporting this site.

When you click on the link, you’ll go to a page that has a message that looks like the one below. Click the “Start Now” button and follow the steps to create your Fairwinds checking account.

fairwinds credit union referral bonus

The website will automatically input the referral code in your application. To be safe, I usually screenshot the offer page just in case there are any issues with the bonus.

When I applied, they couldn’t verify my identity and asked me to submit a picture of my driver’s license and a utility bill with my name and address on it. My account and membership were approved shortly after.

You can fund the account with either a debit card or a bank account. The minimum opening deposit is $25 plus the $5 membership share (so $30 total). It’s not quite clear to me if you can fund the account with a credit card. I opted to just fund it with my bank account since I didn’t want to spend the time figuring out if I could fund my checking account with a credit card.

2. Do A Direct Deposit of $1,000 Or More Within 60 Days Of Account Opening. Once you’ve opened your account, the next step is to do a direct deposit of $1,000 or more within 60 days of opening your account. The easiest and most surefire way to meet this requirement is to do a real payroll direct deposit. I have access to real direct deposits via Gusto, so it’s easy for me to send the direct deposit to my Fairwinds Credit Union checking account.

If you don’t have an easy way to do a payroll direct deposit, then you’ll need to try various ACH transfers to see if any trigger the bonus. Unfortunately, at this time, I have no data points about which banks trigger the direct deposit requirement. Since the bonus doesn’t post until the following month of meeting the requirements, you won’t know if your ACH transfer worked until the next month. And since you need to do a direct deposit within 60 days of account opening, you might run out of time to do a real direct deposit if you find out that your deposit didn’t work.

My advice would be to do a real direct deposit if you can. You don’t need to leave the money in your Fairwinds checking account, so after you do your direct deposit, feel free to withdraw your money back to your main checking account.

3. Your Bonus Should Post By The 15th Day Of the Following Month. The terms state that your bonus will post on the 15th day of the following month after you meet the requirements. Accordingly, if you meet the bonus requirements in July, your bonus would post by August 15th. If your bonus doesn’t post in that timeframe, then it likely means you didn’t meet the requirements.

Refer Your Friends And Get Your Own Fairwinds Credit Union Referral Bonus

Fairwinds Credit Union allows members to refer friends and family. When you open your account, you’ll be able to generate your own referral link. If your friends use your referral link and follow these steps, they’ll earn the bonus and you’ll earn a bonus for referring them.

Per the terms, you can earn up to $1,000 in referral bonuses each calendar year. I don’t know if this also includes the referral bonus you earn for opening your account with a referral link, as the terms don’t really make that clear.

To get your referral link, log into your Fairwinds Credit Union account. Above where your bank accounts are listed, you’ll see a banner that will give you your referral link. Click this banner, copy your referral link, and send it to your friends and family if you think they might be interested. If you’re a two-person household, for example, your best move would be to open an account with a referral link, then refer your spouse or partner.

Final Thoughts

The Fairwinds Credit Union referral bonus is a good one that isn’t too complicated. Since the checking account has no fees or minimum balance requirement, there’s not much that can go wrong here other than failing to meet the terms to earn the bonus.

More Recommended Ebike/Scooters

Check out these other ebikes and scooters I've reviewed:

  • Urban Arrow Ebike – Last year, I made one of the largest purchases I’ve ever made – I bought a $9,000 electric cargo bike from Urban Arrow. In my Urban Arrow review, I will discuss what it is and why I decided to buy this bike, as well as discuss how impactful a bike like this can be on your journey to financial independence.
  • Troxus Explorer Step-Thru Ebike – The Troxus Explorer Step-Thru is a fat-tire ebike that I’ve had the pleasure of riding for a while now. It has amazing power, great looks, and awesome range. If you’re looking for a great fat-tire ebike that offers a lot for the price, the Troxus Explorer Step-Thru is definitely one for you to consider. Check out my Troxus Explorer Step-Thru Review.
  • Hovsco HovBeta Ebike – The HovBeta is a folding ebike with great specs and a lot of interesting features, and importantly, it’s sold at a good price point. I’ve had a blast commuting with it and using it to do deliveries with DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. Check out my Hovsco HovBeta Ebike Review.
  • Vanpowers Manidae Ebike – The Vanpowers Manidae is a fat tire ebike that I’ve been riding as my primary winter commuting bike and have also been using it to do food delivery with apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. After clocking in a decent number of miles with this ebike, I wanted to write a post sharing what my experience with the Vanpowers Manidae ebike has been like. Check out my Vanpowers Manidae Review.
  • Sohamo S3 Step-Thru Folding EBike Review – A Great Value Folding Ebike – The Sohamo S3 Step-Thru Folding Ebike is an entry-level folding ebike that offers a lot of value for the price point. I’ve been riding the Sohamo S3 for a while now, putting the bike through its paces, and I have to say, this bike has exceeded all of my expectations. Check out my Sohamo Review.
  • KBO Flip Ebike – The KBO Flip is an excellent bike. I’ve had a great time riding it and think it’s a versatile bike that can be used for a lot of purposes and can fit a variety of lifestyles. It’s worked out great for me as a general commuter bike and as a food delivery bike. Check out my KBO Flip Review.
  • Hiboy P7 Commuter Ebike – The Hiboy P7 is an excellent electric commuter bike that’s offered at an affordable price point. The range and speed of this bike are both very good, so you won’t have any trouble getting anywhere you need to go with it. As a food delivery vehicle, this is also good – with how much range it offers, you’ll be able to work all day on a single charge. Check out my Hiboy P7 Commuter Electric Bike Review.
  • Himiway Escape Ebike – The Himiway Escape is an interesting bike for anyone looking for a moped-style ebike. If you’re a gig economy worker, the Himiway Escape is particularly interesting and it’s possible to think of it as an investment, especially if you can opt to do deliveries with the Himiway versus using a car. It’s not cheap, but you can definitely make your money back when you compare the mileage you’ll put on your car versus using an ebike. Check out my Himiway Escape Bike Review.
  • Espin Sport Ebike – The Espin Sport is a good ebike for someone who is looking for an ebike that feels and rides more like a regular bike. There are many ebikes that are really only bikes in name. In reality, they’re basically electric mopeds. The Espin Sport, by contrast, is a bike you could probably ride without the battery and you’d feel like you’re just riding a regular bike. Check out my Espin Sport Review.
  • Varla Eagle One Scooter – The Varla Eagle One is an excellent scooter that can make sense for a lot of people. It can work as a primary mode of transportation. You can use it to work on gig economy apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. And it can also be a recreational vehicle if you’d prefer to use it for that. Check out my Varla Eagle One Review.
  • Varla Falcon Scooter – The Varla Falcon is an excellent scooter that offers a good amount of power at a lower price point compared to more powerful scooters. It’s not exactly an entry-level scooter, nor is it a high-powered scooter. I think it fits somewhere in-between those two categories – an intermediate scooter if I had to give it a category. Check out my Varla Falcon Review.
  • Hiboy S2 Scooter – The Hiboy S2 is an excellent entry-level commuter scooter that's perfect for someone looking to save some money in transportation costs and improve their commute. Check out my Hiboy S2 Review.
  • Hiboy S2R Scooter – The Hiboy S2R is one of the more interesting electric scooters I’ve been able to test out. It’s not a high-powered scooter, but for an everyday transport option, it’s very useful, especially given some of the unique features that it has. Indeed, for the price, the Hiboy S2R might be the best value scooter I’ve used. Check out my Hiboy S2R Review.
  • Fucare H3 Scooter – The Fucare H3 is a fun scooter and I’ve enjoyed testing it out. For a daily commuter or quick trips or errands, the Fucare H3 is probably the scooter I’ll use. It’s portable and easy to maneuver, so it’s just easier to take on the road when I need it. Check out my Fucare H3 Scooter Review.

  • Current ($50) – Current is a free fintech bank that’s offering new users a $50 referral bonus after signing up for an account using a referral link. • Novo Bank ($40) - Novo bank is a free business checking account that’s currently offering a $40 bonus if you open a Novo business checking account using a referral link. Indeed, it’s the business checking account I currently use for this blog. Check out my post on how to easily open a Novo account.
  • Varo ($25) – Varo is a free fintech banking app similar to Chime or Current. It’s currently offering a $25 bonus to new users that open a new Varo account with a referral link. Opening a Raisin account takes minutes to complete, it's free, and all of your funds are FDIC-insured. I explain how it works, why I'm now using it to store my emergency fund and any other cash savings I have, and why I recommend everyone check it out in this review.

You must open up one of two types of accounts. The first is the preferred which has a $10 monthly fee unless you have $10,000 in that account or $1,000 direct deposited monthly. The other option is the signature account which has a $25 monthly fee unless you have at least $25,000 in that account. Still worth the bonus if you can avoid the $25 fee. It does not say we have to keep the account open for so long though. Is that somewhere in the terms or is there no time limit?

FYI: It looks like Fairwinds is now requiring a $25 minimum balance to open plus a $5 “membership share” fee. It makes the offer a little less appealing. It is probably still worth doing but wanted to let everyone know.

    Minimum amount to open: $25

    Minimum amount to open: $5

I signed up using your referral link, stashed $1K into the savings acct. @ 2%, hooked up a $200 direct deposit through work and got the $100 bonus within a day. So far dealing with them has been very smooth. I’m very happy with them so far.
