Are you wondering what is the best day to DoorDash? In general, the best day to DoorDash is typically during the weekend, specifically Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This is because these are weekend days when more people tend to order food delivery.
That being said, while weekends are typically the “best” days to DoorDash, any day can be good, including weekdays. It mainly depends on what city you are working in, the types of neighborhoods you are working in, what time you work, and what sorts of events are happening in your area, if any.
In this post, we’ll take a more in-depth look at what is the best day to DoorDash, drawing on my experience as a Dasher, as well as considering data from DoorDash. We’ll then use this information to consider what strategy you should use when figuring out when to work.
What Is The Best Day To DoorDash?
According to DoorDash’s Restaurant Online Ordering Trends report, which compiled data from about 1,500 consumers in the United States, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday tend to be the most popular days of the week for DoorDash orders. As explained by DoorDash, “[a]fter a long week of work, consumers love to treat themselves to delicious food from restaurants.” Friday, specifically, was listed as the most popular day of the week for DoorDash.
This data matches my own experience as a Dasher. In my nearly decade of delivering for DoorDash, I’ve found that the weekends are typically the busiest days for me, with Friday usually being the busiest day of the week.
For most people, delivering during the weekends will make the most sense, especially since many people delivering for DoorDash will be using it as a side hustle and may have jobs during the week that take up their time.
Analyzing The Best Days For DoorDash
While Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are typically the busiest days of the week for DoorDash, there can be some downsides to these days too. Paradoxically, busy days can often end up being slower for individual Dashers because more Dashers will log into the app to work. If too many Dashers are logged in, you’ll end up with fewer deliveries since more orders will be going to other Dashers.
That isn’t to say Friday, Saturday, or Sunday are bad days to work. Indeed, they are still likely the best day to work. But, be aware that if you are logging into DoorDash to work because you think it’ll be busy, others will likely be doing the same.
As for the other days of the week, in my experience, Monday typically is the least busy day of the week for me (and as a result, my “worst” DoorDash day). My theory for why Monday tends to be slower is that people are more likely to save money to start the week since they probably spent money during the weekend. Getting DoorDash delivered to you is often a treat, so most customers will wait until later in the week to treat themselves to a DoorDash delivery.
Tuesday and Wednesday are usually about even for me, typically less busy than the weekend days, but generally busier than Monday.
Finally, Thursday is usually a pretty good day for me on DoorDash and I often think of Thursday as similar to delivering on the weekend. For a lot of people, Thursday is a day to treat themselves since it’s almost at the end of the week.
Of course, your experience may be different, and the best days to DoorDash for you might be different. Also, even though weekdays are usually less busy for food delivery, it can still be a good day to work because fewer Dashers may be logged into the app. That means even if DoorDash isn’t as busy, there can be more orders for you.
When You Work Is More Important Than What Day You Work
While some days are busier than others, in my experience, when you work is more important than what day you work. Yes, DoorDash is busier on the weekends, but food delivery demand tends to follow meal times. So, even if Friday is the busiest day of the week, most people are still ordering DoorDash during the lunch and dinner hours. This is true on any day of the week.
That means if you want to maximize your earnings, you should focus less on what day of the week you work, and instead try to focus on what time you work. Ideally, working during lunch (between 11 am and 1 pm) and dinner (5 pm to 8 pm) will get you the best results. If you work during off-peak hours, you’re going to be slower, even if the day itself is busy.
So, focus on working during the busiest times of the day. Even if the day itself is slower for DoorDash, things tend to stay busy at the busiest times of the day.
Final Thoughts
The best day to DoorDash is usually going to be the same as the busiest days for DoorDash. That typically means Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. For most people, working during these days will help you earn the most money.
However, even though Friday, Saturday, and Sunday tend to be the best and busiest days of the week for DoorDash, other days can still work too. The key is to focus on when you work. If you aim to work during the busiest times of the day, even if the day is slow, you’ll usually be able to maximize your earnings.
Other factors will come into play when it comes to the best day to DoorDash. For example, big events can change how busy a particular day is. And of course, where you live and work will impact how busy things are for you.
