Can you DoorDash to a hospital? You may be asking yourself this question if you’re at the hospital or work at a hospital and are hoping to order DoorDash delivery.
The short answer is, yes, you can DoorDash to a hospital. So long as DoorDash operates in your city, you can order DoorDash to a hospital without any issue. It’s important to note that most hospitals no longer allow Dashers to enter the hospital, but they’ll usually have a drop-off location for Dashers to leave delivery orders. Otherwise, you’ll have to meet your Dasher at the front door.
Can You DoorDash To A Hospital?
DoorDash delivers to hospitals in the same way as anywhere else. So long as they operate in your city, you can place your order using the DoorDash app and have it delivered to a hospital. DoorDash will send your delivery request to available Dashers, and if someone accepts it, they’ll pick up your order and deliver it to you.
There are two main ways you can have a DoorDash order delivered to a hospital. The first is to meet the delivery driver at the front door. If you want to be a courteous customer, be ready at the front door when the Dasher arrives so that they don’t have to wait for you to pick up your order. Dashers only earn money when they’re working, so it’s important that they are able to complete the order quickly and efficiently.
The second option – and the one I recommend – is to have your Dasher leave the order for you at the hospital lobby. Most hospitals have a drop-off area for food delivery orders – usually a shelf in the lobby area. In this scenario, the Dasher would leave your order on the shelf or drop-off area, then take a photo showing the location. This is the best way for both customers and Dashers. The Dasher gets to complete the order quickly and efficiently and the customer can pick up their order at their leisure.
In the past, some customers would request Dashers bring up their order to their room or to a specific wing of the hospital. However, post-pandemic, very few – if any – hospitals allow Dashers to enter the hospital. It makes sense, as hospitals are full of sick people and it doesn’t make sense to allow random people to walk through a hospital. So if you are a customer and are expecting your Dasher to bring your food directly to your room, I’d think again, as they likely won’t be able to get into the hospital.
What You Should Do If You Have DoorDash Deliver To A Hospital
To be a good DoorDash customer, aim to make your delivery as easy as possible for your Dasher. Dashers are independent contractors and are paid per delivery. They can also accept or reject any requests they receive. If your delivery isn’t attractive, it’s possible no one will pick up your DoorDash order.
To make it more likely someone will quickly accept your order, leave an appropriate tip for your Dasher. While Dashers can’t see exactly what a customer tipped until after the delivery is completed, they can get a good idea of whether the customer tipped based on the payout. If the order is a low-tip or no-tip order, the payout will be low and many Dashers will reject the order.
Finally, time is money for Dashers, so make things easier for your Dasher by either meeting them outside when they arrive or letting them leave your order in the lobby.
Should You Deliver To A Hospital If You Are A Dasher?
In the past, delivering to hospitals could be a pain in the butt, as many customers would request Dashers to bring the food directly to them inside the hospital. This meant you’d have to park your vehicle somewhere and go through a huge, often confusing hospital building. As a result, many Dashers would reject hospital orders.
These days, however, hospital orders are no problem at all. Post-pandemic, most hospitals (all even?) don’t allow Dashers to enter the hospital. That means customers must either meet you outside or have you leave the order in the lobby. Most hospitals today have a designated area for Dashers to leave delivery orders.
In sum, delivering to hospitals isn’t too bad these days and hospital deliveries are often some of my easiest deliveries.
If you’re at a hospital, it can be convenient to get DoorDash delivered to you. Fortunately, you can DoorDash to a hospital.
Be aware that Dashers likely can’t enter the hospital, so you’ll want to either have your Dasher leave the food at an appropriate drop-off point or meet them outside when they arrive.
