A frustrating experience is when you order Uber Eats and find yourself with the wrong Uber Eats order. Fortunately, Uber Eats makes it easy to address wrong orders – most of the time, you can handle it in the Uber Eats app without having to talk to anyone.
In this post, we’ll look at how to handle a wrong Uber Eats order, what you should and shouldn’t do about it, and discuss some tips and tricks you can follow to minimize getting wrong orders in the first place.
Reporting Wrong Uber Eats Orders
If you receive a wrong Uber Eats order, all you have to do is report the issue to Uber Eats. I recommend doing this immediately, but Uber Eats will give you several days to report the issue if you forget to do it immediately.
To report a wrong Uber Eats order, simply go to your order history (in the “Account” section of the app). You’ll then click on the order that has an issue, then click “Help” in the top right corner.
From there, Uber Eats will ask you whether you have an issue with a past order or with safety. In this case, you’ll select “past order.” That’ll bring you to the Uber Eats support bot, from where you can select what your issue is.
In the case of a wrong Uber Eats order, you’ll select “Wrong or missing items.”
From there, you can either select that the entire order is missing or only select the specific items that are missing. In my experience, Uber Eats always gives me a refund immediately, but there are circumstances where Uber Eats might take some time to review your report.
If you do have missing items, Uber Eats refunds you to your payment method. I like that they do this because they’re refunding me what I paid, rather than giving me Uber Eats credits that I have to use later.
If your issue still doesn’t get addressed, then you’ll need to contact Uber Eats support and speak to someone. You can do that in the app and they should be able to assist it.
What You Shouldn’t Do About Wrong Uber Eats Orders
When you’re missing items in your Uber Eats order, it can be tempting to be upset at your Uber Eats driver for delivering the wrong order to you. While it sometimes can be the driver’s fault that your order is wrong, most of the time, the issue is with the restaurant, rather than the driver.
That means don’t immediately take your frustrations out on your Uber Eats driver. Most restaurants seal items in a bag before handing the order to the driver, so even if your order is wrong, your driver might have had no way to confirm the order was correct other than by taking the restaurant’s word on it.
Your order could also be wrong due to an honest mistake. Uber Eats drivers often have to deliver multiple orders at the same time. With so much going on, drivers can sometimes mix up orders. Understand that it’s probably an accident and that we all make mistakes.
The second thing you shouldn’t do is contact your Uber Eats driver after the order is delivered to complain that your order is wrong or is missing items. The fact is, once your order is delivered, your driver can’t do much about it. Instead, follow the instructions in the previous section to get a refund for your missing items. The exception is if you immediately notice that you received someone else’s order. If the Uber Eats driver accidentally gave you someone else’s order, they might be able to come back to you and give you the correct order. But even then, they might not be able to do it.
Finally, don’t contact the restaurant about your wrong Uber Eats order either. Again, your issue shouldn’t be with the restaurant or with your Uber Eats driver. You placed your order with Uber Eats, so Uber is the one that can handle your issues.
In short, when you have an issue with a wrong Uber Eats order, don’t contact your delivery driver or the restaurant. Contact Uber Eats instead. You should get a refund for the wrong or missing items.
How To Avoid Wrong Uber Eats Orders
There are a few things you can do to minimize wrong orders with Uber Eats. The first thing you can do is to avoid asking for extra items in your delivery. Some customers will do this – asking for extra stuff in the notes section when they place their order. Uber Eats drivers, however, don’t see your delivery notes until after they’ve picked up your order. So, if you ask for extra food or sauce in your delivery notes, your driver probably isn’t going to see them until they’ve already left the restaurant.
The second thing you can do is to consider not ordering drinks. In my experience, drinks are the most commonly missed item by restaurants and Uber Eats drivers. This is because drinks are usually added to orders by the restaurant at the very end. This makes it easy for the restaurant to forget to hand the drink to the delivery driver. Many delivery drivers also don’t pay attention to the items in the order, so they may forget to ask for drinks too.
Finally, whenever you place an Uber Eats order, you should always use a credit card, if possible. This is because credit cards come with more consumer protections. If you end up having an issue with your order and Uber Eats won’t address it, you can at least file a claim with your credit card company and likely get the order refunded by the bank.
Final Thoughts
It can be frustrating when you place an Uber Eats order and find that it’s wrong. Fortunately, Uber Eats makes it easy to get a refund if your order is wrong or missing items.
