Why does my DoorDash keep pausing? You might be asking yourself that question if you’re working on DoorDash and find your dash continually being paused. It can be very frustrating when this happens.
So why’s this happening? The most common reason is that there’s an issue with your DoorDash app, either on your end or on DoorDash’s servers. The other reason why your dash might keep getting paused is that you keep letting order requests time out on you or there’s an issue where orders aren’t making it through to your phone.
In this post, we’ll answer the question of why DoorDash keeps pausing your dash and what you can do about it.
Why Does My DoorDash Keep Pausing?
So why is your DoorDash pausing? There are two main reasons why this is probably happening.
1. The DoorDash App Is Crashing.
The most common reason that DoorDash keeps pausing you is that there’s an issue with the Dasher app. The issue could either be on DoorDash’s end or it could be an issue with your phone.
On the DoorDash end, it’s not uncommon for the DoorDash app to crash. If this happens, DoorDash may try to send you delivery requests, but nothing will get through because their servers are messed up. At that point, you may get messages saying that DoorDash tried to send you a delivery request but it didn’t go through and then your app will get paused.
The other situation is if there’s an issue with your phone. Sometimes, DoorDash will try to send delivery requests but it doesn’t go through. It could be because you’re in an area with a bad signal, so the order doesn’t go through.
Other times, there might be an issue with your phone. If you have a lot of apps running in the background, for example, the DoorDash app can lag and crash when you open it. I often have a lot of apps running on my phone and I’ve found that my Dasher app will sometimes freeze and then I’ll miss delivery requests and find my dash paused.
2. You’re Letting Delivery Requests Time Out.
The other reason DoorDash keeps pausing your Dash may be because you’re letting delivery requests time out, rather than affirmatively rejecting them.
Each time you get a delivery request, DoorDash gives you a certain amount of time to accept or reject the order. If you do nothing, the request is automatically rejected.
It’s okay to do this, especially if you’re in the middle of other deliveries and it would be too much work to open your app and reject the order. However, if you let too many delivery requests time out, DoorDash assumes you don’t have your phone with you or aren’t paying attention to requests and pauses your Dash.
One thing to note is that, contrary to what some Dashers might believe, rejecting delivery requests does not pause your Dash. It’s only if you let orders time out that DoorDash starts pausing you. You can reject as many delivery requests as you want without any problem (because remember, you are an independent contractor and have the right to choose which orders you accept).
What To Do If Your DoorDash Keeps Pausing?
At the outset, if DoorDash pauses your Dash, you have 35 minutes to unpause it before you’re logged out of the Dash completely. So, if you don’t want to log out of your shift, just unpause the Dash.
If there’s an issue with the DoorDash app from the DoorDash side, there’s not much you can do about DoorDash continually pausing your Dash. Delivery requests will likely fail to get through and you’ll keep getting paused. Your best bet, if this is the situation, is to work on other delivery apps like Uber Eats and Grubhub (see this post: What To Do When The DoorDash App Crashes).
If the problem is with your phone, I first recommend restarting your phone to see if it fixes the issues you’re having with the app. Usually, this can solve the problem. If you’re having a connection issue, you’ll need to get to a place with a better phone connection.
Finally, if you’re not having any issues with the app and you’re getting paused because you’re letting orders time out, try to reject the orders instead of letting them time out. It can be annoying rejecting crappy orders (especially if you get tons of them in a row), but it’s better to do that than keep getting your Dash paused,
Final Thoughts
So, those are the main reasons why DoorDash keeps pausing your Dash. Most of the time, you can address the situation. And if you get paused and don’t want to stop your Dash, it’s easy enough to simply unpause yourself and get back to work.
