Does Grubhub take Apple Pay? The short answer is that, yes, Grubhub does take Apple Pay. To use Apple Pay, simply set it up in the Grubhub app, then you’ll be able to pay for your orders using Apple Pay.
In this post, we’ll look at how to set up Apple Pay in Grubhub and briefly look at other ways you can pay for your Grubhub order too.
Does Grubhub Take Apple Pay?
As already stated, Grubhub does take Apple Pay. To use Apple Pay, you’ll first need to set up Apple Pay on your phone.
Once you’ve done that, Apple Pay will automatically be a payment option in your Grubhub app. At the checkout screen, you’ll automatically be able to use Apple Pay as your payment method.
This is pretty convenient because, in contrast to DoorDash or Uber Eats, Grubhub automatically allows you to pay using Apple Pay without having to do anything. DoorDash or Uber Eats, on the other hand, require you to separately set up Apple Pay as a payment method in their respective apps. Since you don’t have to do that with Grubhub, you save that step. So long as you have Apple Pay on your phone, you’ll automatically be able to use it with Grubhub as well.
Other Payment Methods You Can Use With Grubhub
Beyond Apple Pay, Grubhub also accepts the following payment methods:
- Credit Cards or Debit Cards. To use a credit card or debit card, enter this information in the payment section of the Grubhub app. You can add as many cards as you like. It’s also easy to remove cards from your account if needed.
- PayPal. Link your PayPal account to Grubhub and you’ll be able to use your PayPal funds to pay for your orders.
- Venmo. This works the same way as Paypal. Link your Venmo account to Grubhub and you can use your Venmo account to pay for your Grubhub orders.
- Campus Cards. Grubhub has a unique partnership with many college campuses thanks to its purchase of Tapingo in 2018. Tapingo was an app that allowed students to place orders with college dining halls. Since it had a partnership with these colleges, students could link their University payment cards with the Tapingo app. Since Grubhub now owns Tapingo, it works the same way in the Grubhub app, so if you’re a student, you can link your college payment card and pay for your orders that way.
Payment Methods That Grubhub Does Not Accept
There are two notable payment methods that Grubhub does not accept. The first is cash. Oddly, on the Grubhub website, they claim that you can pay for orders using “good old-fashioned cash.” However, in practice, this isn’t really true. While technically some restaurants can offer to accept cash orders, there are no restaurants that I am aware of that actually provide cash payments as an option.
While you can’t pay for orders with cash, you can tip your drivers with cash if you want. That said, it’s usually best to tip in the Grubhub app so that your order gets picked up by a driver (see Do Grubhub Drivers See Tip? and No One is Picking Up My DoorDash Order – Why This Happens And What You Can Do).
Second, you can’t pay for Grubhub orders using Cash App. Grubhub works with other digital payment methods like Venmo and PayPal, but for some reason, they don’t link to Cash App at this time. You can link your Cash card to Grubhub though and pay using that, so you can still use Cash App in that manner if you want to use it.
Final Thoughts
Grubhub accepts Apple Pay as a payment method. It’s a good option to use since you can manage all your cards in your Apple Wallet and avoid having to link all your cards in the Grubhub app at the same time. If you want to simplify your Grubhub orders, using Apple Pay makes a lot of sense.
