If you order from DoorDash with any frequency, you might run into a situation where DoorDash delivered to the wrong address. It can be frustrating when this happens. But it’s okay. If this does happen, there are things you can do to address the issue.
In this post, we’ll look at how to deal with a DoorDash order delivered to the wrong address, what you should and shouldn’t do about it, and discuss some tips and tricks to avoid your DoorDash order getting delivered to the wrong address in the first place.
Reporting When Your DoorDash Is Delivered To The Wrong Address
At the outset, if your DoorDash is delivered to the wrong address, you should report it to DoorDash immediately. The process to report an order that is delivered to the wrong address is straightforward. You’ll do the following:
- Go to the order in your DoorDash app.
- Tap the “Help” button in the top right corner.
- Under “Order Issues,” select the option indicating you did not receive your order.
- After you’ve selected your issue, follow the prompts on the screen.
Once you go through the above steps, DoorDash will issue you a refund for your order. This usually happens immediately or within a few hours at most.
If you still have issues that haven’t been addressed, contact DoorDash support and they’ll be able to give you further assistance. For additional information, you can also check out the directions from DoorDash on how to report missing orders.
Other Options If DoorDash Delivered To Wrong Address
Depending on how fast you notice that your DoorDash was delivered to the wrong address, you may be able to address the issue on your own.
If you notice it quickly, you can contact your Dasher and let them know you don’t see your order. Most of the time, it’s an honest mistake and if you’re fast enough, your Dasher will still be nearby and can bring your order to the correct address. I’ve done this myself when I’m doing deliveries and accidentally put it at the wrong house. Usually, I’m just not thinking about the house number correctly. But as long as the customer contacts me immediately, I’m able to grab the order from the wrong house and bring it to the correct house.
If your Dasher has already left, they likely put it in front of a nearby address. Usually, you can tell which house they put the order in front of from the picture they send you. Most of the time, if a Dasher delivers to the wrong address, it’s because they accidentally confused a number or just weren’t thinking, so it’s likely your order is nearby. If you know which house they put your order in front of, you can quickly walk over there and grab the order.
Unfortunately, if your Dasher isn’t close enough to grab the order and bring it to the correct address or if you can’t figure out which house the order was placed in front of, then you’ll need to simply report the order as missing and get a refund.
How To Avoid Your DoorDash Order Being Delivered To The Wrong Address
There’s not a lot you can do to avoid your DoorDash order being delivered to the wrong address. The best thing you can do is make sure your address is clearly marked. For example, if you’re ordering at night, make sure your front door lights are on. Having clearly marked house numbers can also help Dashers a lot.
If you have a confusing address, it can also be helpful to put notes in your DoorDash app with directions on how to get to your house. You could also send a text to the driver letting them know exactly how to get to your house so that there aren’t issues.
What To Do With The DoorDash Order That Was Delivered To Your Address
A reader emailed me recently noting that this article didn’t address what to do if you’re the recipient of an order that was accidentally delivered to you. It’s a fair question.
My take is this. If you want to be helpful, before grabbing the order for yourself, consider leaving it at your doorstep for 5 or 10 minutes to see if the Dasher returns for the order. If it was accidentally delivered to you and the Dasher realizes this fast enough, he or she can come back, pick up the order from your doorstep, then deliver it to the correct recipient. The customer might also know where the food was left and come for it.
If no one comes back within a reasonable amount of time, then, unfortunately, there’s not much else you or DoorDash can do about it. Reaching out to DoorDash customer service will be a waste of your time. There isn’t an obvious customer service number and their customer service is trained to deal with active customers, not someone who didn’t order the food.
In any event, even if you could reach a DoorDash customer service rep, they’d likely tell you to keep the food or dispose of it. For health code reasons, the restaurant isn’t going to be able to take the food back.
So, I’d say wait a little bit to see if the Dasher returns for the food and if no one picks it up within a reasonable period of time, consider it a windfall and keep the order for yourself (or give it to someone who might appreciate it).

My order was delivered to wrong address not even close to my house. DoorDash takes 3 days to issue refund. No other compensation. Completely just wasted my afternoon, took my money and I’m still without food. How is that ok?

No refund for delivery to wrong address. They basically scammed me out of 50 bucks. They are the worst!

File a chargeback with your card if DoorDash won’t help you.

I had a similar issue with UberEats a while back where only half my order was delivered, disputed for the missing half on paypal when Uber’s app wouldn’t let me report an issue, and after I was refunded the half, UE expects me to pay them back for the full amount again. Ive tried contacting UE about the issue and they refuse to do anything about it. Chargeback is not always the answer

Well, to be fair, you don’t get any consumer protections when paying with PayPal. With a credit card, on the other hand, per federal law, you will get your money back if you paid for something and didn’t get what you paid for. My recommendation is you really shouldn’t be using PayPal to pay for goods and services.

I’m sorry, but I don’t agree with having to walk to another person’s house and take something off their front porch because the delivery driver messed up. I was able to get my food re-ordered and got a $15 credit in addition for complaining. Hope my neighbor two houses down likes Mexican food.
Financial Panther says
That’s fine. But not everyone has the time to wait for their food to get re-made and redelivered. In some situations, it can make sense to grab the order if you know where it is.

It’s not the driver it’s the stupid gps system

They won’t refund you. This happened a few days ago and they basically said touch luck.
Jeff Rath says
Same thing just happened to me. The delivery confirmation picture clearly shows the wrong house number and it was on the wrong road.
It took me 20 minutes to track down the food, knocked on my neighbors door and they had already started to eat the food. The said DoorDash customer service said to eat the food.
Doesn’t DoorDash put a receipt with a delivery address on the package?
