Is Grubhub busy on Christmas Eve? You might be asking yourself this question if you’re hoping to work during the holidays. In short, Grubhub typically isn’t very busy on Christmas Eve. That doesn’t mean there isn’t any business. And indeed, depending on where and when you work, it can be a fairly normal day. Still, in my experience, you shouldn’t go into Christmas Eve expecting to make a lot of money.

In this post, we’ll take a deeper look at the question of whether Grubhub is busy on Christmas Eve and look at what you can do the make the most money on that day.

Is Grubhub Busy On Christmas Eve?

Unlike Thanksgiving or Christmas Day, Christmas Eve isn’t a full-fledged holiday. That means, in contrast to other major holidays where everything is closed, Christmas Eve can be a bit busier since restaurants and stores are still open and many people are ordering food like any other day.

That said, you can expect that Christmas Eve will probably be slower than a regular day. Many people take the day off on Christmas Eve, so the lunch rush usually isn’t as busy. And while some people may order Grubhub for dinner, most people will eat at home with their families. Many restaurants also close early on Christmas Eve as well.

Things will be even slower if you live in a college town or an area with a lot of young people that leave for the holidays. In those places, you can expect things to be exceedingly slow since there aren’t going to be many people around.

So in sum, you shouldn’t expect things to be very busy on Christmas Eve. It likely won’t be completely dead like on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day, but there likely won’t be much going on either.

Best Times To Do Grubhub On Christmas Eve

In my experience, the best time to work on Grubhub on Christmas Eve is during the lunch hour. There are two reasons why the lunch hour will probably be your best bet to make the most money.

First, most people are spending time with their family on Christmas Eve, so they may not be ordering food for dinner. However, at lunch, people may still be working or doing other things, so there’s a higher chance that people will order Grubhub during the lunch rush.

Second, many restaurants close early on Christmas Eve, which means there are fewer restaurants people can order from. If restaurants are closed, you won’t get many delivery requests.

If you do work in the evening, you’ll find the most business from ethnic restaurants – think Chinese or Indian restaurants that typically stay open during the holidays. You’ll want to stay in areas with those types of restaurants. Also, if working in the evening on Christmas Eve, aim to work earlier in the evening before restaurants close (you can expect that many restaurants will close early – probably by 8 pm or so).

Final Thoughts

Christmas Eve is generally a slow day for Grubhub. It’s not completely dead the way Thanksgiving or Christmas Day is, but it’ll still be one of the slower days of the year for food delivery.

If you want to make some money on Christmas Eve, your best bet is to work earlier in the day, ideally during the lunch hour when you’ll have the best chance of getting delivery requests. If you’re going to work in the evening, aim to work earlier in the evening before things close.
