Can you do Uber Eats anywhere? The short answer is, yes, you can do Uber Eats anywhere. It doesn’t require any special action on your part either. If you are signed up as an Uber Eats Driver, for the most part, you can simply log into your Uber Eats account and start doing deliveries in any city where Uber Eats operates (there are a few exceptions, which we’ll discuss later).
In this post, we’ll take an in-depth look at whether you can do Uber Eats anywhere and discuss how to use this to your advantage.
Can You Do Uber Eats Anywhere?
The nice thing about Uber Eats is that you can do it anywhere so long as Uber Eats operates in that city. Since Uber Eats operates in almost every city in the US, this gives you a lot of places you can do Uber Eats if you want.
To deliver in other cities, all you have to do is log into your Uber driver app and log in to start delivering. You don’t have to do anything special to do Uber Eats in another city or state. So long as Uber Eats operates in that city, you’re good to go.
That being said, there are a few exceptions. At the moment, it seems like Uber Eats drivers who signed up for Uber Eats in California, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi are unable to do Uber Eats in other states. I’m not quite sure why this is the case, but it appears to have something to do with local and state regulations. If things have changed on this front, please let me know in the comments.
In addition, Uber Eats does not permit out-of-state drivers to deliver for Uber Eats in California. Again, this appears to be due to state regulations. California does have its unique Proposition 22 law that applies to gig workers, so it makes sense that out-of-state drivers might not be able to deliver for Uber Eats there.
Still, even with these restrictions, most people reading this should be able to do Uber Eats in any city or state where Uber Eats operates.
How Do You Do Uber Eats In Another State?
Since you can deliver for Uber Eats anywhere, I often like to do Uber Eats while I’m traveling. That being said, if you want to do Uber Eats in another state, you have to think about how you’ll complete your deliveries.
First, I usually bring a delivery bag with me whenever I travel. However, instead of a large food delivery backpack, I’ll usually stick to a small delivery bag that I can fold up and put in my suitcase. Even a regular tote bag or something to hold the food should be sufficient.
Next, you’ll have to think about what you’ll use for transportation. If you’re driving somewhere and have a car, then you can do your Uber Eats deliveries using your car. You could also theoretically rent a car and use that to do your deliveries. I prefer to use a bike, but I understand some people would rather use their car. If you don’t have a car and are staying in a dense area, you could also be strategic and only accept orders that you can complete on foot.
Finally, my preferred way to do deliveries is via bike. When I’m traveling, I’ll always try to take advantage of the city’s bikeshare system. Most cities have a bikeshare system that allows you to rent a bike by the hour or day. For example, when I’m in Chicago, I’ll usually use their bikeshare system to do deliveries. It doesn’t cost much and so long as I can make more than it costs to rent the bike, I can earn some money, pay for the bike, and explore the city too.
Here’s a YouTube short of me completing some deliveries while I was in Washington DC visiting my parents. In this case, I was delivering for DoorDash, but I also did Uber Eats deliveries while I was visiting my parents. I have an electric scooter that I leave at home just for that purpose.
The Best Part About Doing Uber Eats In Another State
The nice thing about doing Uber Eats in another state is that you don’t have to contact Uber Eats or do anything special to deliver outside of your home market. This is in contrast to an app like Grubhub, which requires you to contact Grubhub support and have them switch your city whenever you want to deliver in a different market.
Since it’s so easy to do Uber Eats in another state, this makes the app an interesting way to earn money while you’re traveling. I do Uber Eats in almost every city that I visit. When I get to a new city, I’ll turn on the Uber driver app and see if I can get any good deliveries. I’ll then rent a bike and explore and do some deliveries.
The great benefit of doing this is that I get to earn some extra money while traveling and I get to explore a new city in a way I might not have. I’ve found interesting restaurants while doing Uber Eats deliveries and have been able to visit areas of the city outside of the usual tourist zones. It helps me feel like a local too, which is something I find important when I’m visiting a new place.
Final Thoughts
In sum, if you want to know if you can do Uber Eats anywhere, the answer is yes, you absolutely can. All you have to do is sign up to be an Uber Eats Driver and when you’re visiting another city, log into your Uber Eats app, and start delivering orders. Other than a few exceptions, you shouldn’t have any issues.
Try it out the next time you’re in another city or state. It’s a great way to explore a new city and make some money while you do it.
