Do you need a license to DoorDash on a bike? While you won’t need a license to DoorDash on a bike, you will still need a valid form of identification so that DoorDash can run a background check and verify your eligibility to work.
For many people, delivering DoorDash on a bike will be ideal. By using a bike, you don’t have to worry about traffic or parking. You’ll also have far fewer expenses since bikes require little maintenance – at least when compared to a car.
In this post, we’ll take a closer look at whether you need a license to DoorDash on a bike and consider what you will need if you want to DoorDash using a bike.
Do You Need A License To DoorDash On A Bike?
You do not need a driver’s license if you are doing DoorDash on a bike. However, while you may not need a driver’s license, you will still need some form of valid identification to confirm your identity for a DoorDash background check.
DoorDash states that the following are valid IDs:
-
Driver’s License
-
State ID
-
Passport
-
Passport Card
-
Permanent Resident Card
-
Employment Authorization Card
Meanwhile, DoorDash will not accept the following IDs:
-
Any expired ID
-
Non-US ID
-
US non-government-issued ID (school ID, bank card, company badge, etc.)
-
Social Security card
-
Temporary paper Driver’s License or State ID
-
Any photocopies, electronic replicas, or screenshots
-
License plate

Note that a driver’s license will only be required if you sign up to deliver using a car. If you’re signing up to deliver for DoorDash using a bike, you can use another form of ID, such as a State ID or Passport.
It’s important to remember that even though you won’t need a driver’s license to DoorDash on a bike, you’ll still need to meet the other requirements. That means you’ll need to be at least 18 years old (in most states) and pass a background check. You’ll also need a smartphone with the Dasher app.
What Do You Need To DoorDash On A Bike?
Other than meeting the eligibility requirements to DoorDash on a bike, there isn’t much else you’re required to have. DoorDash will send you an activation kit, which will include a DoorDash delivery bag. At a minimum, you should use this delivery bag to keep your deliveries warm while you’re riding.
For a better option, consider getting a food delivery backpack. There are many options out there that will work well. I personally use an Uber Eats food delivery backpack that I was able to buy for $5.
Having a bike with cargo space will also be helpful. For example, having a bike with cargo racks and baskets will make it easier to carry orders. If you’re fortunate enough to have a cargo bike, carrying things becomes even easier.
Finally, if you want to deliver pizzas, you may need to get a pizza delivery bag. DoorDash offers a pizza delivery bag that you can purchase for not too much. If you take a photo of your pizza delivery bag, you’ll be eligible to deliver pizza orders, which, depending on how many pizzas you’re carrying, isn’t too difficult using a bike.
Final Thoughts
Using a bike is an excellent way to deliver for DoorDash. I’ve been delivering for DoorDash for almost 10 years now and have always done so using a bike. When I started, I used a regular bike, but in the past several years, I’ve transitioned to exclusively using ebikes.
The big advantage of ebikes is that I can travel much faster and I don’t have to worry about getting tired or sweaty while I ride. In most instances, I can deliver orders on an ebike faster than I would be able to in a car.
Anyway, you don’t need a license to DoorDash on a bike, but you will need a valid ID to verify your identity and for a background check. The only other requirement to deliver for DoorDash with a bike is that you need to be 18 years old (in most states). For ID, a state ID will be fine if you don’t have a driver’s license, or a Passport will also work. Otherwise, there are many other valid forms of identification, which I’ve listed above.
