It can be frustrating doing Grubhub – frustrating enough that you might ask yourself how to quit Grubhub.
The bottom line is that it’s easy to quit Grubhub if you want to. All you have to do is stop logging into Grubhub and stop doing deliveries altogether. If you prefer, you can also quit Grubhub entirely by contacting Grubhub support and asking them to delete your account. However, I don’t recommend doing that because if you delete your Grubhub account, you’ll have to reapply if you want to deliver with them again. Considering that Grubhub is often the hardest of the big three delivery services to onboard with, it’s possible you might never get back onto Grubhub again.
In this post, we’ll answer the question of how to quit Grubhub, go over why I don’t recommend quitting, and discuss what you should do instead.
How To Quit Grubhub
As previously stated, there are two ways you can quit Grubhub. The first – and best method – is to simply stop logging into the Grubhub driver app. Grubhub delivery drivers are classified as independent contractors, which means if you’re a Grubhub delivery driver, you are free to accept or decline orders as you like and work whenever you want. You are under no obligation to schedule yourself or work a certain number of hours.
That’s one of the nice benefits of being an independent contractor versus working as an employee. If you want to do Grubhub, just log into the driver app and start doing deliveries. If you don’t feel like working, just sit back and do nothing. It doesn’t cost you anything to keep your Grubhub account active, so why delete it?
One thing to note is that Grubhub states that if you don’t log into your Grubhub driver account for 4 months, your account may be deleted due to inactivity. Because of this, I recommend doing at least one Grubhub delivery every four months to keep your account active. Grubhub does state that if your account is deactivated due to inactivity, you can get it reinstated by filling out the reinstatement form with a copy of your driver’s license, insurance policy, and Grubhub driver card (this is the card that Grubhub gives you to pay for non-prepaid orders).
That being said, while Grubhub does act like it’s easy to get your account reactivated, I wouldn’t chance it. It’s better to avoid getting your deactivated at all if possible.
How To Delete Grubhub Account
That being said, if you’re really fed up with Grubhub, you may want to quit it completely and delete your account. Again, I don’t recommend doing this, but I can see why someone might want to. Maybe you’re tired of the low-paying orders. Or dealing with bad customers or customers that don’t tip.
If you want to completely delete your Grubhub account, you’ll need to contact Grubhub support and have them delete your personal information. To do so, visit this Grubhub page and fill out the form.
Once you fill out the form, Grubhub will delete your personal information from their servers. This will delete both your driver account and your customer account, so be aware of the seriousness of this step.
My advice – don’t delete your driver account if at all possible. Just let it go inactive if you really don’t want to do Grubhub anymore.
Don’t Quit Grubhub – Keep Your Account Active Instead
Even though you can delete your Grubhub account, I highly recommend against it. Since you’re an independent contractor with Grubhub, you have no requirement to complete a certain number of deliveries or schedule yourself for deliveries. Instead, if you want to quit Grubhub, the best option is to stop logging into the Grubhub app.
You never know when you might want to deliver again, so it makes sense to keep your account active if you can. If you delete your account, you’ll have to go through the application process again and do a background check. And if something goes wrong, you might not be able to sign up for Grubhub again.
It’s important to have backup plans in life. Grubhub (and other gig economy apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats) is what I like to think of as part of my side hustle emergency fund. If things get tough, I know I can turn on the Grubhub app and make a bit of extra money when I need it.
Remember, it costs you nothing to keep your Grubhub account active, so why even delete your Grubhub account? If you’re frustrated with Grubhub, take a break from it. You never know when you might need it again.
If Grubhub isn’t working out for you, perhaps consider looking at some other gig economy apps. I have a good post here with tons of different gig economy apps you can check out: The Ultimate List Of Gig Economy Apps. You may find something there that works better for you.
