The DoorDash large order program is a program that DoorDash offers that allows Dashers to receive large catering orders. These orders are worthwhile because they’re typically high paying, primarily due to the large tips you can receive for these types of orders.
To get into the DoorDash large order program, you have to meet certain requirements. These aren’t difficult requirements to meet, but you do have to do some legwork to get into the program.
In this post, we’ll look at the requirements of the DoorDash large order program and discuss whether it’s something you should take advantage of.
What Is The DoorDash Large Order Program?
As previously noted, the DoorDash large order program gives qualified Dashers access to large catering orders. Most of these orders are for offices, so the tips can be extremely generous. It’s not uncommon to grab an order that’s offering a $30 or $40 tip.
There’s one DoorDash driver that I follow on YouTube who works in Minneapolis (the same city I work in) that swears by the large order program. Here’s a short video he made about it:
To qualify for the DoorDash large order program, you have to meet two main requirements. The first is you have to have what DoorDash calls a standard catering bag. To qualify as a catering bag, DoorDash requires that it be insulated and its dimensions are at least 22″ W x 14″ L x 13″ D. You can buy the DoorDash catering bag from the DoorDash website, or you can purchase a similar one from Amazon or anywhere else. You don’t need to use a branded catering bag, but if you want to avoid any issues, getting the DoorDash branded one is probably the easiest option.
In addition to having a standard catering bag, you’ll also need to meet the following performance requirements to qualify for the large order program:
- 200+ lifetime deliveries
- 100+ deliveries in the past month
- 4.7+ average star rating in the past month
- 95%+ completion rate in the past month
One catch with the large order program is that you have to maintain these requirements each month to remain eligible for the program. Effectively, that means to remain in the large order program, you have to complete at least 100 deliveries per month, maintain a 4.7 customer rating, and hold a 95% completion rate. If you don’t meet these requirements in a given month, you’ll be removed from the large order program and will have to reapply to get back into it.
How To Enroll In The DoorDash Large Order Program
To enroll in the DoorDash large order program, you’ll need to do the following:
First, you’ll need to receive an invitation email. If you meet the criteria listed above (200 deliveries, 100 deliveries in the past month, customer rating of at least 4.7, and 95% or more completion rate), you’ll receive an email from DoorDash asking you to join the large order program. You’ll then follow the instructions in this email. Note that you’ll only receive this email if DoorDash needs more Dashers to fulfill large orders. If there are enough Dashers already in the program, then you won’t receive this email until DoorDash needs more Dashers for it.
Next, you’ll need to verify your catering bag. After you’ve enrolled in the program, you’ll need to verify your catering bag. To do this, you’ll need to submit a photo of your catering bag to DoorDash. DoorDash will review the photo and let you know if the bag meets the requirements.
Finally, once you are approved, you’ll be able to receive large delivery orders. Large delivery orders will be indicated by a notation telling you that it’s a large delivery order. You’ll also likely notice it’s a large delivery order because the payout should be much higher than a regular order.
Remember, if there are enough Dashers enrolled in the large delivery program, then you won’t receive an invitation email. That means if you are interested in this program, make sure you sign up as soon as you receive the email.
Is The Large Order Program Worth It?
A question you might have is whether the large order program is worth it. Depending on how you use DoorDash, it can be.
At the outset, meeting the requirements for the large order program means you have to complete at least 100 deliveries per month or about 3-4 deliveries per day. If DoorDash is a side hustle for you, then meeting the 100 deliveries per month requirement isn’t going to be easy. I rarely complete 100 deliveries per month on DoorDash, especially since I only work during prime hours and multi-app.
However, if DoorDash is a full-time job for you, then getting into the large order program makes a lot of sense. Meeting the requirements shouldn’t be difficult if you’re doing enough DoorDash, plus it’s always good to give yourself more options.
That being said, for me, the large order program also doesn’t make sense because it requires a car and I exclusively do my deliveries using an ebike and electric scooter. I make plenty with DoorDash by multi-apping and being strategic with the orders I accept, so getting into the large order program has never been something that particularly interested me.
Final Thoughts
The DoorDash large order program is a way to potentially earn more with DoorDash, assuming you don’t have issues meeting the requirements each month and you do your deliveries using a car. Getting a catering bag is an investment, but you can make up for the cost from the higher earnings you’ll get.
But if you’re like me and do your deliveries using a bike, then the large order program won’t work for you.
I hope that information was helpful. Feel free to leave any comments below or share your experiences with delivering large orders on DoorDash.
In addition to the large order program, you might also want to check out the DoorDash pizza program, which is a way to get priority on pizza orders in your city.
