DoorDash Catering Bag

The DoorDash catering bag is exactly as it sounds – it’s a big bag from DoorDash that lets you hold a lot of food. One of the main reasons to consider getting this bag is to gain access to the DoorDash large order program. This will allow you to get larger catering orders that typically offer higher pay.

In this post, we’ll look at the DoorDash catering bag and discuss the requirements of the large order program and whether it’s worth it.

You can purchase the DoorDash catering bag from the DoorDash website, here. It’s a big insulated food delivery bag. The dimensions for this bag are 21.5″L x 13.75″H x 13.75″D. In other words, it’s a big bag that will hold plenty of food.

The main downside with this bag is that it’s fairly expensive. At the time I’m writing this, the bag is currently for sale for $39.95. It makes this bag a fairly large investment for anyone looking to purchase a bag, especially when you consider that DoorDash gives Dashers a free bag when you get your DoorDash activation kit.

That being said, if you want to get into the DoorDash large order program, you’re going to need to have a catering bag. While you don’t necessarily need to purchase the DoorDash bag specifically to qualify for the program, it does make it slightly easier since the bag undoubtedly meets the requirements to be part of the program.

If you don’t care about getting orders specific to the large order program, then getting the catering bag won’t be necessary. I personally don’t bother with it, although I use my bike to do deliveries, so I do rely on a good food delivery backpack.

DoorDash Large Order Program Requirements

The DoorDash large order program is a program that DoorDash offers that gives qualified Dashers access to large catering orders. These orders are advantageous because they’re usually high-paying. Most of these orders are for offices, so the tips can be very generous. It’s not uncommon to grab an order that has a $30 or $40 tip with it.

To qualify for these types of orders, you have to meet certain requirements. First, you must have what DoorDash calls a standard catering bag. To qualify as a catering bag, DoorDash requires that it be insulated and its dimensions are at least 22″ W x 14″ L x 13″ D. You can opt to go with the DoorDash catering bag or you can opt to get a non-branded catering bag. DoorDash links to several catering bags on Amazon that they say meet the requirements (you can find those bags here).

In addition to having a standard catering bag, you’ll also need to meet the following performance requirements to qualify for the large order program:

200+ lifetime deliveries
100+ deliveries in the past month
4.7+ average star rating in the past month
95%+ completion rate in the past month

One thing to note is that to remain in the large order program, you have to continue to meet these requirements each month. Effectively, that means completing at least 100 deliveries per month, maintaining a 4.7 customer rating, and a 95% completion rate. If you fail to meet these requirements, you will be removed from the large catering program and will have to apply again to get back into it.

You’ll have to enroll in the large order program, which is by invitation only. If you qualify, you’ll eventually get an email from DoorDash letting you know you can enroll in the large order program. Note that DoorDash limits the number of Dashers that can be in the program, so if your city doesn’t need more Dashers for this program, you won’t be able to enroll.

Is The Large Order Program Worth It?

A question you might have is whether the large order program is worth it. Depending on how you use DoorDash, it can be.

At the outset, meeting the requirements for the large order program means you have to complete at least 100 deliveries per month. That means you’ll need to complete about 3-4 deliveries per day to meet those requirements. If you’re doing DoorDash as a side hustle, you’ll probably have trouble hitting this number.

If you do DoorDash more like a full-time job or do it more often than just a few hours per day, then you’ll probably have a better chance of meeting the large order program requirements. And if you’re doing that much DoorDash, then it makes a lot of sense to get into the large order program and give yourself more options.

One issue is that you can only be part of the large order program if you do deliveries using a car. I use an ebike and electric scooter to do deliveries, so that rules me out of the large order program. I think I make plenty with DoorDash by multi-apping and being strategic with the orders I accept, so taking steps to get into the large order program has never really been an issue for me.

Final Thoughts

If you want to get into the large order program and potentially earn more with DoorDash, you’ll need to get yourself a DoorDash catering bag. The DoorDash catering bag costs about the same as other similar bags, so if you want to make things easier for yourself, you can simply snag the DoorDash branded bag. That’s probably what I would do if I was trying to get into the large order program.
