If you’re a DoorDash dasher, you may try to schedule a Dash and get the following error message: “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes.” When this happens, it’s because your Dasher account is having an issue – most likely because your account hasn’t been activated yet. In some circumstances, it could also be a sign that you’ve been deactivated or temporarily suspended.
In this post, we’ll go over all the reasons why you might be receiving the error message, “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes,” and discuss what you can do about it.
Dasher Must Be Active To Schedule Dashes Error Message
When you receive the error message saying that “Dasher must be active to schedule Dashes,” it’s most likely because your account is not active. Most of the time, the solution is to simply wait for the problem to solve itself. Other times, you’ll need to take proactive steps to get your account back up and running.
Here’s a list of the main reasons why you might be receiving this message.
1. Your Account Isn’t Active Yet
The most likely reason you’re getting this error message is that your account hasn’t been activated yet. There are a few things that have to happen before your Dasher account becomes active.
First, you have to pass a DoorDash background check. The background check typically takes a few days to a week, although in rare circumstances, it can take longer than that. In any event, you’ll just need to be patient until your background check is processed and your account is activated. Here’s a post with more info about the DoorDash background check. There’s also a link in that post that shows you how to check your background check status.
Second, you may need to wait for your activation kit to show up. I’ll talk about this more in the next section, but in my experience, you can’t start dashing until you’ve activated your DoorDash Red Card. The activation kit usually arrives within a few days after your account is approved, so again, give it time to arrive.
2. Your Red Card Isn’t Active
Another potential reason you’re receiving this error message is that your DoorDash Red Card isn’t active. If you’ve just signed up for DoorDash, you’ll need to wait for it to arrive. Once it arrives in your activation kit, you’ll be able to activate it in the app and you should be able to start Dashing.
You could also have an issue with your Red Card if you lose it and need to get a new one or if it expires and you don’t have a new one on hand yet. This is what happened to me once. My Red Card expired and I didn’t have a new Red Card on hand. Since my Red Card wasn’t active, I kept getting an error message whenever I tried to log in.
You can order a Red Card from the DoorDash store. It doesn’t cost anything to get a new Red Card, but it will take a few days for it to arrive. Once my new Red Card arrived, I was able to activate it in the app and Dashing again.
One suggestion I have for current Dashers is to order a backup Red Card and set it aside somewhere. That way, if you lose your Red Card or have an issue with it, you’ll have a backup Red Card you can activate.
3. Your Account Has Been Suspended Or Deactivated
One unfortunate reason you could be seeing this error message is that your account has been suspended or deactivated. If your account is suspended, it could be something as simple as you need to activate a new Red Card. DoorDash also runs yearly background checks, so it’s possible that your yearly background check is still being processed.
If your account has been deactivated, you should receive an email from DoorDash that explains why they are deactivating you. Common reasons your account can be deactivated are if your customer rating falls too low, your completion rating falls too low, or you receive too many contract violations. Remember that your acceptance rating does not matter, so you don’t need to worry about a high acceptance rate.
You could also get deactivated if there was a specific incident that prompted your deactivation. If you were confrontational with a customer for example or did something grossly unprofessional, you could be subject to deactivation.
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot you can do if you get deactivated from DoorDash. Most of the time, they make it clear that their decision is final and there is no appeal process. Since Dashers are independent contractors, there’s not much that can be done. As a last-ditch effort, getting in touch with DoorDash headquarters and explaining what happened could help, especially if you have a lawyer write to DoorDash on your behalf.
4. The DoorDash App Has Crashed
A final common reason you can receive this error message is if the DoorDash app crashes. If you do DoorDash for long enough, you’ll eventually understand why Dashers often call Doordash, “DoorCrash.”
There’s not much you can do here if the DoorDash app has crashed. At the outset, you’ll want to check the DoorDash Twitter account to see if the app has crashed. DoorDash will usually put the status of the app on their Twitter account.
If the DoorDash app has crashed, the only thing you can do is wait until the service is restored. Until then, I’d recommend multi-apping and doing deliveries on Uber Eats, Grubhub, and whatever other delivery services are available in your area.
Final Thoughts
Those are the main reasons why you might be getting the error message, “Dasher must be active to schedule dashes.” There may be other reasons, but these four reasons are the most common ones.
For most of the reasons listed above, you’ll simply need to wait until you can get your account active. Or if the app has crashed, there’s not much you can do but wait until it’s up and running again. Getting suspended or deactivated is the worst-case scenario, and unfortunately, there’s not much you can do if that happens to you.
Most likely though, you just need to wait until the error message goes away on its own. Good luck!
